The jury was charmed by the clear setup and the optimal sports and teaching facilitating design resulting in simplicity and a realistic integration with its surroundings. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The starting point of the design by Koppert + Koenis lies in the industrial background of the city of Oudenaarde and specifically its impact on the site of the planned sports complex. This brownfield location is nowadays surrounded by low density housing and gardens. This results in complex spatial challenges as well as optimizing the sports- and educational use of the building.
